Paediatric Osteopathy
At Edge Osteopathy, babies and children are a specialist area of our practice. Our paediatric osteopaths have undertaken postgraduate specialist training in paediatric osteopathy and regularly work with babies and their families.
What happens at an appointment?
Your first appointment includes a detailed history of your pregnancy, birth, your baby's general health and development, followed by a full head-to-toe osteopathic assessment.
We assess your baby's posture, movement, joints and muscles, including how comfortably they turn their head to either side and whether there are any asymmetries or movement preferences.
Treatment is gentle, baby-led and tailored to your child. We may also give you simple exercises, positioning advice or activities to continue at home.
Common reasons parents bring their baby to see us
Parents often bring their babies to us where they have noticed:

A head-turning preference or difficulty looking equally to both sides

Torticollis or asymmetrical neck movement

Concerns around head shape or positioning

Difficulties with tummy time or early movement

Feeding concerns where positioning or movement may be contributing

Questions about their baby's movement and development
Our role is to assess your baby's musculoskeletal function, posture and movement. Where feeding or other concerns are present, we are happy to work alongside lactation consultants, tongue-tie practitioners, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals involved in your baby's care.
If we feel anything requires further assessment or falls outside the scope of osteopathic care, we will always discuss this with you and recommend the appropriate next step.
